  • The 10 Best MWF Water Filters:

    1. AmazonBasics MWF Refrigerator Water Filter – Best Overall

    AmazonBasics MWF Refrigerator Water Filter

Amazon is a retail giant, and its AmazonBasics line produces quality products for reasonable prices. Their MWF refrigerator water filter continues this reputation by offering excellent filtration for a much more affordable price than the GE brand filters. These filters work on all MWF fridges with a leak-proof fit, so you don’t need to worry.

This filter removes chlorine, lead, cysts, benzene, and more. Even better, it’s one of the few filters that remove pharmaceuticals like phenytoin, ibuprofen, estrone, and naproxen. It has multiple NSF certifications to show that it satisfies national regulations for how well it removes the contaminants.

The AmazonBasics filter has a 0.5-micron pore size, so not much is getting past it. But that comes with a tradeoff. This filter has a slower flow rate than the stock GE filters. However, we’re willing to trade a few extra seconds for the money we save, which is why the AmazonBasics MWF filter is the best overall MWF filter.

    Pros
    • Leak-proof fit
    • Affordable pricing
    • 5-micron pore size
    • Multiple NSF certifications
    Cons
    • Slower water flow than the original filter

    2. Pureza Filter PF8 MWF Water Filter – Best Value

Pureza Filter PF8 MWF Water Filter

Not every household has water contaminated with pharmaceuticals, so you may not need that type of filtration. If you’re satisfied doing without it, the Pureza Filters PF8 MWF filter cartridges offer the type of savings that a thrifty shopper likes to see. You get three filters in a pack for less than the cost of a single filter from many other manufacturers, which is why we think it’s the best MWF water filter for the money.

But the budget price means you get budget-level filtration since this filter is only NSF42-certified. The activated carbon filter will remove chlorine, taste, and odors, and your water will be delicious and refreshing. If you’re looking for the cheapest way to keep getting filtered water from your GE fridge, the Pureza PF8 filters offer a lot of bang for your buck.

    Pros
    • Cheaper than other options
    • You get three for the price of one from competitors
    • Seems to last longer than other brands
    Cons
    • Doesn’t remove pharmaceuticals

    3. General Electric MWF Refrigerator Water Filter – Premium Choice

General Electric MWF Refrigerator Water Filter

MWF filters are GE refrigerator-specific, and it makes sense to replace them with a genuine GE filter. Not only are they guaranteed to fit in GE appliances, but they’re also one of the best filters available. They remove over 20 contaminants and are NSF-certified to reduce 14. The only downside is that you’ll be paying a lot more for the GE name on the side of this filter since other brands offer similar filtration levels for lower prices.

This filter will reduce lead and chlorine-resistant cysts, asbestos, and some VOCs. It will also remove the taste and odor of chlorine, which is a big issue for many. Where this filter shines is its ability to filter out 98% of five pharmaceuticals, including ibuprofen and progesterone. Even though it’s expensive, it’s the real deal and one of the most effective MWF filters on the market.

    Pros
    • Actual GE component
    • Guaranteed fit for GE appliances
    • Filters pharmaceuticals
    • NSF certified to reduce 14 contaminants
    Cons
    • Overpriced

    4. ICEPURE PRO MWF Refrigerator Water Filters

ICEPURE PRO RWF0600A MWF Refrigerator Water Filter

The Icepure Pro MWF filter is an affordable alternative to a GE filter. You get three in a pack that costs less than a single GE filter. These filters also have a better guarantee than the 3 months that most manufacturers offer. The Icepure Pro filters have a 6-month guarantee, so if something is wrong, you can return them.

These filters won’t remove pharmaceuticals but still reduce over 20 contaminants, which is impressive. The Icepure filter removes chlorine, lead, mercury, and many more, leaving you with refreshing drinking water that tastes great and has no odor. It’s a great option considering the price, but the Pureza filters that earned our best value recommendation are even cheaper.

    Pros
    • Three in a pack
    • Affordable
    • Six-month guarantee
    Cons
    • Doesn’t remove pharmaceuticals

    5. Waterdrop WDS MWF Refrigerator Water Filter

Waterdrop WDS MWF Refrigerator Water Filter

We like good deals, and with three filters in a pack that costs the same as a single filter from other companies, we think the Waterdrop WDS MWF Refrigerator Water Filters are a good deal. The Waterdrop filter provides an affordable way to remove several contaminants from your water. Unfortunately, it won’t remove pharmaceuticals since it’s not NSF 401-certified.

So, what will this filter remove? Contaminants such as lead, cysts, benzene, and more will all be filtered out. It also removes chlorine, and its taste and odor will also be gone. You get 0.5-micron filtration, which we think is pretty good for a filter at this price. But that filtration is a double-edged sword since it also slows down the flow rate.

    Pros
    • Three in a pack
    • Multiple NSF certifications
    • 5-micron filtration
    Cons
    • Doesn’t remove pharmaceuticals
    • Slow flow rate

    6. FilterLogic MWF Refrigerator Water Filters

FilterLogic FL-RF13-3 MWF Refrigerator Water Filter

FilterLogic provides a package of three MWF filters for a very affordable price, making them one of the best deals we’ve seen. These filters have multiple NSF certifications, so they’re effective at filtering your water and leaving you with a delicious and clean drinking experience. However, they don’t remove pharmaceuticals, so if you want to remove ibuprofen, naproxen, and more, you’ll need to look elsewhere.

The FilterLogic filters will remove lead, chlorine, mercury, benzene, and several other chemicals, leaving behind safe water that tastes great. But it takes about 3 gallons to initially prime and clear this filter, which wastes a lot more water than many of the other filters we tested.

    Pros
    • Affordably priced
    • Pack of three offers more value
    • Multiple NSF certifications
    Cons
    • Doesn’t reduce or remove pharmaceuticals
    • Needs 3 gallons to clear filter initially

    7. AQUACREST MWF Refrigerator Water Filter

AQUACREST AQF-MWF-P3 MWF Refrigerator Water Filter

If your main goal is delicious-tasting drinking water devoid of lead and chlorine that still has healthy and tasty minerals, the Aquacrest MWF filters may fit your needs. They’re one of the most affordable MWF filter replacement options, with three in a package that costs less than most individual replacement filters.

Unfortunately, the Aquacrest MWF filter cartridges won’t remove pharmaceuticals like ibuprofen or chemical compounds like bisphenol A. However, it has an activated carbon filter that removes up to 97% chlorine, 99% lead, and even some VOCs. The limited filtering ability holds this filter back since we prefer filters that remove as many contaminants as possible.

    Pros
    • One of the most affordable options
    • Three in a pack
    • Reduces some VOCs
    Cons
    • Can’t filter pharmaceuticals
    • Doesn’t remove chemical compounds

    8. Waterspecialist MWF Refrigerator Water-Filters

Waterspecialist WS613B-A-3 MWF Refrigerator Water Filter

Many of these lower-priced filters come in packs of three, and the Waterspecialist MWF Refrigerator Water Filter is no exception. With three filters, you shouldn’t need to purchase more replacements for a year and a half. It’s affordable, so you won’t be spending much to keep producing clean and crisp filtered water.

One big issue we had with the Waterspecialist filters was that some of them tasted downright awful. Out of six filters, two of them weren’t usable because of the foul taste. The others were fine and produced delicious filtered water, but even the ones that worked had low flow rates. These filters remove lead, mercury, and chlorine but won’t remove or even reduce pharmaceuticals.

    Pros
    • 3-pack
    • Affordably priced
    Cons
    • Doesn’t filter pharmaceuticals
    • Some of the filters didn’t taste good
    • Low water flow rates

    9. GLACIER FRESH MWF Refrigerator Water-Filter

GLACIER FRESH MWF Refrigerator Water Filter

For a single replacement filter, the Glacier Fresh MWF Refrigerator Water Filter Cartridge seems affordable. However, it’s still overpriced compared to the brands we tested. It is NSF42-certified to remove up to 97.9% of chlorine from your water, so the resulting water tastes great. But it doesn’t filter out much more than that, making it one of the less effective filters on our list.

It’s no surprise that this filter doesn’t remove pharmaceuticals. Few at this price point do, but what is a surprise is that the Glacier Fresh filter has a lower capacity than similar filters on the market. Though it claims a 6-month lifespan, the capacity is only 200 gallons compared to the 300-gallon capacity of competing models. 100 gallons is a sizable difference, which is why the Glacier Fresh is ranked so low.

    Pros
    • Affordably priced
    • Removes chlorine for good-tasting water
    Cons
    • More expensive than 3-packs
    • Doesn’t filter out pharmaceuticals
    • 200-gallon capacity compared to 300 from competitors

    10. EcoBlueLife EBL7771 MWF Water Filters

EcoBlueLife EBL7771 MWF Refrigerator Water Filter

The EcoBlueLife EBL7771 MWF Refrigerator Water Filter is less than half the price of a genuine GE filter replacement cartridge. However, it’s still considerably more expensive than some of the economical three-packs we’ve tested while compiling information for this list. Since it’s about the same quality, we prefer the three-packs for their improved value.

With an activated carbon filter, the EcoBlueLife filters can remove chlorine and several other contaminants. However, they don’t remove pharmaceuticals or even filter out as many contaminants as other budget-priced options we’ve tested. When using this filter, our water didn’t taste as good as with some other filters, which is why it’s at the the bottom of our list.

    Pros
    • Less than half the price of genuine GE filters
    Cons
    • Single filter pack
    • More expensive than similar filters in a pack
    • Doesn’t remove pharmaceuticals

    Conclusion:

Clean and safe drinking water is a necessity, and MWF filters for GE fridges deliver it to many households. However, there are loads of replacement filters to choose from, which cost far less than genuine GE filters. Our favorite overall was the AmazonBasics MWF refrigerator filter. It has a tiny 0.5-micron filter pore size, multiple NSF certifications, and removes pharmaceuticals for a price far more affordable than a genuine GE replacement.

For the best value, we recommend the Pureza Filters PF8 MWF water filter. Each pack contains three filters for less than the cost of a single filter from competing brands. Plus, a three-pack will last 18 months, which is one of the best cost-to-longevity ratios we’ve seen.

Finally, the genuine GE water filter replacement is our premium choice recommendation. It filters pharmaceuticals and 15 other contaminants and is guaranteed to fit GE appliances since it’s a genuine GE part.
